The Children's Legal Centre
The Children’s Legal Centre is pleased to announce the introduction of British Sign Language on its innovative website www.childrenslegalcentre.com
British Sign Language is available on key pages of the website including the Child Law advice and Education Law advice pages.
British Sign Language (BSL) is the first or preferred language of deaf people in the UK. The language makes use of space and involves movement of the hands, body, face and head. Many thousands of people who are not deaf also use BSL, as hearing relatives of deaf people, sign language interpreters or as a result of other contact with the British deaf community.
Professor Carolyn Hamilton, Director of the Children’s Legal Centre, said: “We firmly believe that all parents, children and young people, and those who work with them, should be able to access the information and advice that they need. The incorporation of BSL on our website highlights our commitment to make ourselves accessible to everyone. For those deaf children and young people for whom BSL is a preferred language, we are very pleased to be able to offer information in this way.
“The Children’s Legal Centre website receives over 79,000 visits a month and is a valuable source of information on issues such as child protection, homelessness, parental responsibility, children in care, and education matters. As we continue to develop our website, we hope to make it even more accessible for other members of the public.”
